U.S. Men and Women Undefeated in Pool Play after Two Days of Competition
For their first game of the 2010 World Goalball Championships, the U.S. Men's team dominated a young team from the host country of Great Britain. The British team was unable to find the back of the net until the last minute of the game scoring their only two goals: the final 10-2, Team USA. The Men's team played later in the day against Algeria, who beat Canada earlier in the morning. Algeria has steadily improved their performance over the years but not enough for the U.S. Men. The final score was USA 4 Algeria 2. In the second day of competition the Men's team played rival Canada. In a highly anticipated game, the U.S. defense was outstanding only giving up goals on penalty shots. The final score 10-4, U.S. on top. In one of the final matches of the day, Team USA went on to beat Germany 5-1. Tomorrow's action for the men is a single match against Iran who is also undefeated in Pool A.
On the women's side, Team USA team played an up and coming Greek team in their first match of the championship; final score 3-1, USA. The U.S. Women's team later played Israel who lost earlier to Canada. The women followed up one solid performance with another, a 3-1 victory. Tomorrow's matches include an important pool play match for the Women's National Team against a tough Canada team and take on Sweden later in the day.
